What is a 'Silent Guard'? (and why a care home needs one)

19 June 2026 · CareTime

The plain answer

A Silent Guard is a call-screening layer installed on your care home's existing phone line. It listens to every inbound call, categorises it — family check-in, GP, admin, spam, unknown — and logs a summary. Your manager reads about all of it in a single email before 9am. Nothing changes for residents or staff. No new hardware. No new number.

What it does, day to day

  • Answers automatically in the background. Calls that don't need a human — wrong numbers, telecom cold-callers, repeat upsell firms — are handled before they reach the floor.
  • Flags what matters. Distressed callers, repeat unknown numbers, and urgent-sounding contacts are tagged for attention in the morning brief.
  • Gives your manager a written record. Every call that came in yesterday — who rang, when, what for, whether it was handled or needs a callback — is in one email before the day starts.

What it isn't

It isn't an answering machine (it doesn't take messages). It isn't a spam blocker (it doesn't hang up on unknown callers — it listens and logs them). It isn't an AI receptionist (it doesn't speak to callers or route them). It doesn't replace your team. It works in the background so your team can stay on the floor.

Who it's for

Care homes with 20–80 beds, typically run by a Registered Manager or owner-operator who suspects the phone is taking more time than it should — but hasn't had a way to measure it. Particularly useful where staff regularly interrupt care tasks to take calls, where voicemail is full or ignored, or where distressed-caller situations are happening but not being tracked.

How the free first report works

The pilot starts with a 30-day trial for £49. Within the first week, you'll receive the free first report: a full breakdown of every call your home received — volume by hour, call types, top callers, anything flagged. It's delivered before any pricing conversation. If it doesn't show a problem worth solving, there's nothing further to pay and nothing to sign up for.

If it does — and it usually does — the conversation starts from real data, not sales material.
